Tyler Chang, a Chinese-American dancer with Visceral Dance Chicago, was born and raised in New York City. They began their dance education at LaGuardia High School, additionally training at Broadway Dance Center, Ballet Hispánico, and MOVE|NYC|. 

 

Tyler earned their Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California (USC) Glorya Kaufman School of Dance with a concentration in performance and a minor in Business Finance. They were also a leading teaching artist at the 32nd street elementary school in Los Angeles through an outreach program named Kaufman Connections for the duration of their collegiate experience. 

 

In addition to their collegiate studies, Tyler was a 2025 Arnhold summer fellow studying dance education and leadership. They additionally studied at The School at Jacob’s Pillow contemporary program, Springboard Danse Pittsburgh, Orsolina 28, and the Ballets Jazz Montréal summer intensive. 

 

Beginning in 2025 the interdisciplinary collaborative short film Tyler choreographed and executive produced, i see, began gaining national and international acclaim through film festival recognition with 7 official selections. Tyler became the first director of multi-disciplinary events for Southern California Choreographic Collective that same year, continuing on to become one of the co-presidents of the organization in their senior year. Their newest choreographic project Look at me Lillia! is set to premiere at the National Gallery in Washington D.C. in November of 2026. 

 

This is Tyler's first season with Visceral Dance Chicago and is thrilled to begin their first year as a teaching artist at Dance on Broadway.
