Layzabeth Gonzalez was born and raised in Brownsville, TX and received her BFA in dance from Sam Houston State University, where she performed works by Elijah Alhadji Gibson, Joshua L. Peugh, Sidra Bell, Donald C. Shorter Jr., Joshua Manculich, and Dionne and Andy Noble. Gonzalez has attended the Gus Giordano College-Pro Intensive in Chicago, IL, as a scholarship recipient in 2017, worked for Ballet Hispanico in New York City as a teacher assistant and production intern in 2018, and attended the 2019 Ballet Hispanico ChoreoLab in NYC. In 2018, Gonzalez had her professional dance debut in Elijah Alhadji Gibson’s show “The Black Card” in Houston, Texas and worked as a performance apprentice with Gibson’s up and coming company Social Movement Contemporary Dance. Since moving to Chicago in 2019, Gonzalez has interned and worked for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s youth and education programs as an assistant and lead teaching artist, taught dance for the Elmhurst Parks District, and became a company member for Contretemps Contemporary Ballet. She hopes to continue to immerse herself in Chicago’s rich dance scene and is excited to share her love for dance with the Dance on Broadway Chicago community!
